It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors of the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) announces that Monica Rodriguez will begin serving immediately as SIECUS’ president and CEO. Ms. Rodriguez was unanimously elected to the position by the Board on Friday, October 1, 2010 at the organization’s fall board meeting.

 

In addition to her vast experience as one of the nation’s foremost sexuality educators and trainers, Ms. Rodriguez has worked at SIECUS for more than 16 years, most recently as our vice president of education and training. She is a widely recognized and sought after expert on sexuality education issues, providing speeches, workshops, training, resource development, and technical assistance to education and health professionals, decision-makers, and parents both domestically and internationally, and has served on the Board of Directors of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health and on the executive and advisory committees of the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS).

 

As SIECUS moves into this exciting new phase of our existence under Ms. Rodriguez’s leadership, we will continue to strive to achieve our core goal of affirming that sexuality is a fundamental part of human nature – one worthy of dignity and respect. While we move forward, always with an eye to new opportunities and the future, we also realize that the history and great past successes of SIECUS must always guide us in our fundamental mission. Ms. Rodriguez is a leader who understands where we are coming from and has the tools and skills to lead us successfully into a bright tomorrow.

 

Over the coming weeks and months, as Ms. Rodriguez takes the reins of the organization, both the staff and Board of SIECUS greatly anticipate our continued collaboration with the many colleague organizations, foundation partners, and individuals who have contributed so greatly to the success of SIECUS over the course of our existence. We hope that we can all write this next exciting chapter in our history together and ensure sexual health and rights for generations to come.
